The Softail Crossbones is a high-end motorcycle built in a post-war retro-style by Harley Davidson from 1984 onwards. Loosely based on a custom bobber, this Harley incorporates a Springer front end, round air-cleaner cover, sprung single seat and half-moon footboards, all with a vintage-look.
Named for its rear-suspension design, mimicking a vintage hard-tail frame but with the added comfort of modern suspension concealed by the chassis, the Softail has clean lines, a lowered seat, and a rigid-mounted Twin Cam 1584 cc engine.
The Softail also features the six-speed Cruise Drive transmission for excellent mid-range torque and a relaxed engine speed whilst cruising. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) adds to engine efficiency, providing rapid throttle response and easy starting, and even self-adjusts to changing environmental conditions in maintaining performance.
Never intended as a race bike, the Softail is renowned for its effortless cruising at relatively low engine revs.
