The Hummer H1, produced by AM General from 1992 to 2006, is a civilian off-road vehicle based on the Humvee M998. The Alpha version presented here marks an extensively re-engineered and higher powered version of the predecessor model and was produced only for a short period from 1995 to 1996. All examples of the Alpha are classified as model year 2006.
Extensively re-worked in this version, the key difference is a much improved powertrain consisting of a turbocharged GM Duramax diesel engine coupled to a five-speed Allison automatic transmission. Other improvements to this version include high-strength steel in the chassis frame, quieter axle differentials, upgraded steering gear and re-engineered fuel supply and filtration.
Popular among collectors, the Alpha is generally considered the best version of the H1 ever built. New USA diesel emission laws brought a premature halt to all H1 Alpha production by mid-2006.
This 2006 Hi Alpha is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as part of a luxury car collection.
