The 911 from this era, known internally at Porsche as the 993 model, is a two-seater sports car produced from 1993 to 1998 and available in either coupe, convertible or targa body styles. Improvements to this generation of 911’s included a multi-link rear suspension, which improved handling and ride quality, while also reducing cabin noise. A six-speed manual transmission had now become standard.
The Turbo example featured here was first introduced in 1995, adding all-wheel drive to the standard Turbo model, and represents the last air-cooled version of this variant. The 3.6 liter turbocharged engine produces 402 hp and also boasts electronic engine management, which improves fuel efficiency dramatically and made the Turbo model the cleanest sports car of its time.
In performance terms, the Turbo was the fastest mainline 911 ever built. With an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, the twin-turbo model alone boosted sales of Porsche cars dramatically.
