The 450, referred to internally at Mercedes Benz as one of the C107 series, was one of the company’s second longest running models, being produced from 1971 to 1989. Described as their best looking car so far, the Mercedes Benz 450 was available as a two-seater convertible or two-door hardtop.
The SLC version featured here is often described as the SL Coupe and received the 4.5 liter V8 engine fitted with Bosch KE Jetronic system, an early form of mechanical fuel injection. All US models were fitted with the 4.5 liter engines and three-speed automatic transmissions.
With production coming to a halt in 1980, this example represents a later model featuring the more powerful engine and the other upgrades accumulated from Mercedes’ long experience of producing this series. Top speed is rated at around 130 mph.
