The Crown is a long-running luxury sedan originally aimed at the Japanese and Asian markets, but soon available also in North America and Europe. Production first began in 1955, yet the marque has continued right up to the present day, with sales now limited only to Japan and China. In essence, this model can be seen as a forerunner to the later high-end Lexus range also produced by Toyota.
This particular example from 1972 represents the Crown’s fourth incarnation and was produced from 1971 to 1974. Powered by a 2600 cc engine rated at 108 hp, the luxury-appointed Crown de Luxe was aimed at the upper end of the auto marketplace, primarily businessmen and refined gentlemen. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows, rear seat radio controls and luxurious upholstery.
Never intended as a performance car, the Crown was better known in its day for refined, modern-featured motoring, as well as comfort and reliability.
This Toyota Crown 2600 de Luxe is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as part of a classic car collection.
