The 911 was Porsche’s flagship model through the 1960’s and 70’s. A two-door high performance sports car, it features the signature rear-engine and independent rear suspension. All models boasted air-cooled engines, of six-cylinder Boxer design, before the year 1998.
Besides being Porsche’s best-selling production model in that era, the 911, in its various configurations, has also been a highly successful competition car with numerous titles to its name.
This 1969 model saw the first major changes to the Porsche 911 lineup, then consisting of three models, the 911T, 911E and 911S, all available in coupe and Targa body styles. The T remained carbureted until 1972, whereas the E and S were mechanically fuel injected.
Cosmetic changes to the 911 Targa featured here include a stretched wheelbase to improve front-end stability and flared wheel arches, allowing for wider tires to be fitted.
