The GT series was a special model whose early incarnation, produced from 1959 to 1961, was powered by a 2458 cc V6 engine. By 1962, it had received a triple-carburetor configuration, which provided the additional moniker of 3C.
From 1963, the 3C variant was further upgraded with a 2775 cc engine and the example presented here is one of only 168 ever built in this configuration by the renowned Carrozzeria Touring of Milan.
The Touring models boasted full aluminum bodywork and shared highly advanced Flaminia mechanics, such as the Dion rear axle integrated with a transaxle transmission. Although a very expensive construction method, this ensured an ideal weight distribution between the car’s front and rear.
A very rare and desirable true classic due to its short production run and limited numbers built, the 3C fitted with the 2.8 engine also marked a defining moment in sports car design: The attempt to extract maximum performance from a lightweight construction, combined with a potent V6 engine and the terrific handling and roadholding afforded by ideal weight distribution. Other notable features include independent suspension and disc brakes all round.
