The 3200 CS is a vintage sports touring car produced by BMW from 1962 until 1965, with over 500 units eventually built and only 50 or so believed to have survived until today. This CS is housed in the United Arab Emirates as part of a vintage car collection.
The design house of Bertone, and a young Giorgetto Giugiaro in particular, was commissioned to design and manufacture the coupe body. This classic features a 3168 cc twin-carburetor version of the 160 hp BMW V8, a four-speed manual gear box, live rear axle, front disc brakes and torsion bar springs all-round.
The resulting body design offered a spacious interior and a profile that was unmistakably Italian. It was this silhouette, with its low waistband and bubble canopy supported on thin pillars, which was to become BMW’s signature mark in the years to follow.
Other design elements to find their way into future models included the front grille layout and rounded rear lights.
