The R26 is a classic motorcycle produced by BMW from 1956 to 1960. During this short manufacturing period, only 30,236 examples of this model were ever built.

The R26 was a direct replacement for BMW’s R24 model, which was their first production motorcycle from the post-war period. Powered by a 247cc single-cylinder engine and featuring BMW’s renowned shaft-drive, this model produces 15 hp for a relatively sedate riding experience and comes equipped with drum brakes, front and rear. Revered today more as a vintage icon than a performance bike, this particular model is now highly sought after among collectors.

The early example featured here, from the very first year of production, also comes fitted with the lightweight Steib LS200 sidecar. Famed for their luxury upholstering and armchair comfort, the Steib sidecar features an all-leather finish, an internally-sprung seat fitted with armrests and even a hydraulic braking system.
