The Safari Catalina is a full-sized station wagon boasting space for up to nine passengers and a luggage capacity advertised at 105 cubic feet. Its configuration is five-door with a front-mounted engine delivering power to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
Powered by a 400 V8 engine, fed by four-barrel carburetion, this heavyweight Safari is rated at 185 hp. Standard features include front disc brakes, power steering, Turbo Hydramatic transmission and a ‘glide-away’ powered tailgate.
Station wagons of this kind were largely targeted at middle class families who preferred to get away for weekends and vacations with sufficient storage capacity for all the camping/outdoors equipment necessary. They were noted for their practical usability and easy access to the storage area, while at the same time incorporating many of the standard luxury features essential to highway cruising in comfort.
This nice car is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as part of a vintage car collection.
